A Woman Comes to the Doctor

The title of the film, like the book on which it is based, deliberately uses the first phrase of a common Dutch boy joke. This joke, however, turns out to be not funny at all. Provincial southerner Stein becomes a successful advertiser in Amsterdam, marries an equally successful colleague, Carmen, and with the birth of their daughter, they move to a large country house. And then “fate knocks on the door.”
