Abla is the owner of a small home bakery in Casablanca, where she lives with her eight-year-old daughter Varda. Their usual way of life is one day disrupted by a young woman knocking on their door. This is Samia. She is expecting a child, she needs a job and a roof over her head. Little Varda quickly becomes attached to her, but the girl’s mother initially refuses to shelter the pregnant stranger. The attitude towards Samia changes as soon as she begins to demonstrate the art of her cooking.
