We had a great movie. Our own dream factory. Our special path in cinema. And our own “Russian Hollywood”. Just like in Hollywood, we had a golden age of undisputed box office hits, wasted on quotes, an age of one hundred percent stars and... great intrigues. Absolutely all of our favorite films have been censored. By direct orders from above, the scripts were rewritten and the leading actors were re-appointed, and some films ended up on the “shelf”, where they lay until better times. What would, say, the Diamond Arm be like if not for the pressure of party officials? How did Gaidai himself conceive it? Who should have played the main roles? What scenes were cut and can they be restored?
