1953, the first days after Stalin's death. The entire Soviet Union, particularly the state security agencies, is experiencing a period of anxious uncertainty. In a closed scientific Institute, scientists continue their theoretical and experimental work. Every night they listen to footsteps in the dark corridors: who have they come for this time? Who has managed to write a denunciation against whom? Andrey Losev, head of the Institute's theoretical department, having endured fear and humiliation during interrogation, refuses to cooperate with the internal security services. But a new trial awaits him—in his own home.
