Scientist Nikita Nekrasov is a theoretical physicist who studies our world and the worlds that could be. He refuses to make a choice between mathematics and physics, between one woman and another, and reflects on the coexistence of parallel universes. At scientific conferences, which are attended by both eminent foreign scientists and the younger generation of young physicists, Nekrasov enthusiastically discusses the beauty of string theory. To all his women - the librarian Katya, the academic secretary Zoya, the head of the department Svetlana - he tries to explain the theory of his own polygamy and the possibility of a great feeling that is enough for everyone.
