Lida, a simple, modest girl, lives with her mother in the village of Kolpakovo and dreams of becoming a flight attendant. She saw her father only once - five years ago. From that distant meeting, Lida was left with silver earrings - her father's gift - and an invitation to come to him after graduation... When Lida's mother gets married, the girl realizes that she is superfluous in the new family, and goes to the capital, full of vague hopes for happiness. Lida ends up in the house of her father, a promising chemist. He happily lets the heroine into the family, but his refined wife and capricious, spoiled daughters are not at all happy about the appearance of the “hillbilly” and intend to get rid of her in any way...
