Twenty-five-year-old Gypsy Vale and eighteen-year-old Clive Webb, two goths, live in the small town of Sandusky. Gypsy's parents, Ray and Velvet, were once in the same music group, and she also dreams of becoming a superstar, like her idol, singer Stevie Nicks. But she does not dare to follow her dream, since her mother, also dreaming of becoming a famous singer, abandoned her and her father and left. On a fan site dedicated to Stevie Nicks, she and her friend Clive learn about the Night of a Thousand Stevies party in New York, where those who wish to participate are invited to attend, where Gypsy recognizes her mother in a photograph. After much arguing, Clive persuades Gypsy to take part in the event and at the same time meet her mother, and they set off by car to New York.
