Nautilus

This segment of the life of the main character Felix falls into a rather dramatic period in the life of the country - Chernenko is buried, Gorbachev comes to replace him, Ligachev criticizes Yeltsin, there is a continuous shortage all around, cronyism, queues, the war in Afghanistan... Having not come up with anything better, he, an electronics engineer, escapes from reality in an original way: he gets a job as a janitor. He seems to lie low, locking himself in a cramped janitor's closet and trying to pretend that nothing interests him. But his younger brother dies in Afghanistan, and cars constantly drive up to the courtyard of the house that he sweeps every day to load up with scarce goods from the back porch of the store.
