A major businessman and banker Gudilin, for a fabulous fee, hires journalist Glukharev to collect dirt on his competitor Grigory Plotkin in order to win the fight for an oil field that promises huge profits. Through the collected material, covering the period from the 50s to the present time, using the example of Plotkin, the origin and formation of the oligarchy in Russia is traced for the first time. However, the journalist's investigations become threatening for himself.
