In a small Sicilian town, the head of the criminal investigation department, Marineo, is killed. It seems like a mafia crime. On the same day, another death becomes known. Marquise Pecci Chaloya committed suicide. Corrado Cattani, an experienced police officer who moves to Sicily with his wife and daughter, is appointed to replace the murdered commissioner. While investigating the murder of his predecessor, Corrado meets drug addict Titti Pecci Shaloya and gradually falls in love with her.
