The Cannibal

Kazakhstan. 1954. Copper mines. Camps with inmates who are blowing up on these mines. The cruelty and sadism of the officers who guard these prisoners. In the center of the plot is a revolt that naive “convicts” raise, protesting against the inhuman treatment of them, against the exhausting working day, against starvation. They want to change something in their slave lives. Such idealistic demands of political prisoners elicit quite a natural reaction from the authorities: the brutal suppression of the uprising and the subsequent terror that the administration unleashes on the recalcitrant, even those who did not even think to strike at the system itself.
