During a scientific experiment, 12 ordinary people voluntarily become “prisoners” of a prison for two weeks, while 8 of the same volunteers become guards. The task of the former is to comply with the rules of the prison regime; the task of the latter is to maintain order. But human nature takes its toll, and the experiment gets out of control: under the dispassionate gaze of scientists, the guards revel in power, humiliating the prisoners, and a riot is brewing in the prison...
