The story of how young Jake Adelstein, arriving in Japan, becomes a crime reporter for the Yomiuri Shimbun, the country's largest English-language newspaper. For many years, Adelstein has been highlighting the dark side of Japanese reality in its pages. Eventually, the specifics of his job bring him face to face with Tadamasa Goto, the yakuza boss.
