Kind, sincere Anna Timofeevna left her village home and her fellow villagers with pain. Son Stepan, fearing for his mother’s health, persuaded her to move to the city. She helped his family as much as she could and waited for her grandson Genka to return from the army, who finally arrived with his young beautiful wife Sveta. Joyful troubles were replaced by illness, after which Anna Timofeevna ended up in a country boarding house for the elderly. Feeling homesick, she leaves for her native village. There she meets Genka, and he becomes the closest and dearest person to the elderly woman.
