In a provincial town, an armed attack was carried out on collectors; an Interior Ministry employee died in a shootout. An investigator arrives from Moscow, who turns out to be a close friend of the deceased. The brutality of the murder leads him to think about possible revenge. The city authorities are not happy about this visit and are trying to complete the matter as quickly as possible, even at the cost of a mistake. But the friend’s task is to find the true killer, even though he has to conduct the investigation almost alone.
