When the Trees Fall

The film takes place in the Ukrainian province, where the story of five-year-old Vitka, her teenage cousin Larisa and her beloved young bandit Scar unfolds. After the death of her father, Larisa is faced with the acute question of her future. Larisa wants to be the mistress of her own destiny, but her family condemns her for her love for the bandit Scar. Grandmother, who only worries about what people will say, and Larisa’s exhausted mother push her towards a stereotypical life scenario. Larisa and Scar plan to escape together away from bandits, devastation and relatives.
