The quiet, measured life of the small Siberian town of Belogorsk is shaken by the mysterious disappearance of a whole watch of oil workers working at one of the nearby fields. The oil company Baikal-Oil is trying to hide the disappearance of its employees, but the city is already filled with rumors that the workers were attacked. The actions of the police are constrained by a very specific directive from the capital - to hush up the case. In Belogorsk comes freelance employee of the company "Baikal-neft" Alexei Kovalev, who is tasked with understanding the incident. Among all the local residents, Kovalev’s special attention is attracted by his new neighbor Lena, a teacher in a local village, whose husband disappeared several years ago in the taiga. Lena is from Moscow, where her parents and friends are waiting for her. Why is this fragile-looking girl still here? Kovalev begins to realize that the recent disappearance of oil workers and the disappearance of Lena’s husband, Sergei, are somehow connected. Lena begins to feel that with the appearance of Kovalev, she is close to solving Sergei’s disappearance for the first time in two long years, but is Lena ready to find out the truth?
