In the story, a young investigator from Moscow, Evgenia Klyuchevskaya, comes to the quiet town of Voznesensk. Her superiors sent her here with the dry official wording “to check media information about the existence of a serial killer.” In Voznesensk, a Muscovite will be greeted coolly: like in any provincial town, since the 90s, there has been its own ecosystem, where everyone is tied to each other in some way, and everyone has a skeleton hidden in their closet. Investigator Ivan Krutikhin becomes Zhenya’s partner.
