Kate Moran Full-Frontal Striptease in Goltzius and the Pelican Company (2012)(7:08)

In the winter of 1590 in Colmar, the Dutch typographer and engraver Hendrik Goltzius turned to the Marquis of Alsace with a request for funds to create a printing house that would publish illustrated books. Goltzius believes that the first two books that come out of the printing press should be presented to the Marquis and his retinue. These books should be an illustrated edition of the Old Testament, containing six stories with erotic content, and an illustrated edition of Ovid's Metamorphoses, containing the story of Jupiter's betrayals. To further seduce the Marquis, Goltzius and his printing workers are preparing to stage a series of performances based on these erotic stories in front of the Marquis's retinue. The Marquis, a man known for his open-mindedness, proud of his religious and cultural tolerance, owner of a large library, with an enlightened interest in books and new printing technologies, succumbs to Goltzius's temptation. In the presence of witnesses, the Marquis declares that he will reimburse the production costs of Goltzius and the company, provided that they keep him in a hot and agitated state.
