Elena Smirnova, an accountant at a private company, experiences all possible misfortunes at once. She is fired from her job, her husband leaves for another, younger woman, her mother-in-law tries to kick her out of the apartment, and to top it off, her seventeen-year-old daughter Alya finds out that Elena is not her own mother, cannot forgive such a deception and leaves to live with her own mother in Prague.
