A wandering warrior, traveling with a girl whom his father has arranged to marry, stops for the night in a dilapidated temple, where he saves a monk experimenting with spells from certain death. While examining what remains of the building, the sword-bearer notices on one of the walls a painting with three lovely fairies smiling at him.
