Italy, late thirties. Mussolini's regime is in full bloom, Italian volunteers are sent to the civil war in Spain. Against the backdrop of peaceful village landscapes, behind the walls of the estate of the middle-aged Floriana, her own dictatorship reigns: her brother Guido is in charge of everything, demanding unquestioning obedience to his will. He considers all the women around him to be his property, and, like a rooster in a chicken coop, he must constantly confirm this with action. His problem is his young son Alberto, who is unlike his father in every way, and who dreams of breaking free from dictatorial tutelage. When his beautiful cousin Gloria arrives at the estate, a romance breaks out between the young people. Guido learns that his sister is going to bequeath the estate to his “unworthy” son. Everything portends a tragic ending.
