The film takes place in the colony of France – Indochina. Against the background of the anti-colonial mood of the film, the director focuses on the relationship of the mother-owner of a rice plantation with suddenly sharply grown children who defend their right to independence and want to leave the estate in various ways. The main character, despite the fact that everything around her is collapsing, continues to persistently restore and again and again lose her old, familiar life. While her children are looking for new ways and opportunities, they have learned their mother’s habits and are also stuck in the same patterns of interaction with life.
