2007, Los Angeles. At the pre-wedding banquet, one and the guest tell a long story to those gathered around the cozy fireplace. In London in 1987, American Dani Clayton is looking for work. She gets a job as a nanny for two orphans - eight-year-old Flora and ten-year-old Miles, who live with servants in the luxurious Bly Manor. Their uncle is busy with business in London, their parents are dead, and their previous nanny died recently, but the children don’t seem to worry too much about it. On the very first evening, little Flora asks Dani not to leave the room at night, and Miles shows the habits of a grown man.
