Alexander Bertenev has a phenomenal gift - he is a “listener”, an “acoustician”, capable of picking up sounds that are inaudible to an ordinary person. From the recording of a telephone conversation, he accurately determines where, when and what time the conversation took place. Bertenev worked for some time in the anti-terrorist group, but due to a fatal mistake he was forced to leave the force. One day, tragic circumstances again bring Alexander to the special service. Bertenev's wife Olga is killed, and he soon finds out that his wife, whom he considered an ordinary psychologist, led a double life and left behind mysterious sound codes after her death.
