The film is set in Newcastle, a city in economic decline where people are desperate for work. An American tycoon with a dark past named Cosmo decides to carry out a grandiose money laundering operation by buying up city real estate. Finny, the owner of a thriving jazz club, refuses the American's generous offers. But Cosmo is not used to retreating and intends to achieve his goal at any cost.
