On the dangerous streets of New Orleans, Harper encounters a host of mysterious characters, including a gun-toting police chief and a cruel and greedy oil tycoon. The detective plunges deeper and deeper into the maelstrom of secrets and dangers and, in the end, finds himself trapped - in the death chamber, in the “Pool of the Drowned,” from which there seems to be no way out.
