Casual acquaintances - former tanker Andrei Novikov and Yura Martov, who never served in the army - find themselves in search of money in a gold mine, in a world where the main and only value is yellow metal, and man is only a tool for its extraction. The rules are set by the “golden mafia,” which, with the help of overseers nicknamed “thieves,” controls a profitable “enterprise” in the taiga. At the end of each season, the miners, like unnecessary witnesses, are silently disposed of, taking into their hands the share they have earned. Trying to stay away from the secret life of the mine, Andrei and Yura very soon realize that they cannot avoid their common fate.
