After a mysterious tornado hits her reservation and her father dies, Danielle Moonstar wakes up tied up in a hospital bed. Doctor Reyes tells the girl that she is the only survivor, and now, together with four teenagers, she is in a specialized institution, where they are studied and taught to control their superpowers.
