About the movie
1914, East Africa. Smelling of gin, Captain Charlie sails on his steamboat to the village where the Christian mission of Reverend Samuel and his unmarried sister Rose are located, who, in the wild African jungle, behave as if they were still in good old England. But the war is reaching Africa. German soldiers burst into the mission, burn the village and drive away the inhabitants. The experience had a bad effect on the reverend's condition; he soon dies, and Rose has to flee with Charlie. Constantly quarreling with each other, a prim missionary and a reckless captain sail along the river towards dangerous and romantic adventures.
